Jean Windéyam Birba is National Stakeholder Engagement Manager for Target Malaria Burkina Faso at the Institut de Recherche en Sciences de la Santé (IRSS)/Centre Muraz in Bobo-Dioulasso, Burkina Faso.

A sociologist by training, he has several years’ experience in social science research, particularly on vector-borne diseases. As part of Target Malaria, he engages in dialogue with decision-makers, regulatory authorities, civil society, informal sector players and communities, with a view to facilitating exchanges on innovative technology and supporting the elimination of malaria through vector control. Through stakeholder engagement on innovations in vector control in health, it aims to contribute to public and community acceptance and ownership of these technologies.

As a member of the Social Sciences team at the Institut de Recherche en Sciences de la Santé (IRSS/CNRST), he is involved in evaluating malaria control and surveillance tools in communities, and studying the human and social factors behind the persistence of malaria, lymphatic filariasis and neglected tropical diseases.
