Target Malaria Uganda Joins World Malaria Day Commemoration in Iganga

Target Malaria Uganda took part in the national commemoration of World Malaria Day in Iganga, held at Bulamagi Subcounty grounds under the theme: “Driven to End Malaria: Now We Can, Now We Must.” The event also combined the graduation of over 100 Community Health Extension Workers (CHEWs).
The function, held on April 24, 2026, was presided over by Dr. Charles Olaro, Director General of Health Services, who represented the Minister of Health, Jane Ruth Aceng. He emphasized that zero malaria deaths is no longer just a theme but a firm government commitment. He also highlighted the importance of raising awareness about innovations and expanding the tools available to end malaria.
Among the distinguished guests was Specioza Wandera Kazibwe, Emeritus Vice President, who noted that malaria is easy to fight if all community members are actively involved.
Dr. Christine Musanhu, the World Health Organisation’s disease prevention lead, represented the WHO Country Director, Dr. Kasonde Mwinga. She acknowledged the global progress made, including the delivery of 52 million vaccine doses since 2023, but pointed out that a funding gap of $45 billion remains for the 2026–2030 period. She emphasized that ending malaria is within reach but requires increased funding and collective responsibility.
Target Malaria Uganda remains committed to supporting national malaria control strategies through community engagement, transparency, and responsible research. By working closely with communities and partners, we continue to contribute to the collective goal of a malaria free Uganda.s et nos partenaires, nous continuons à contribuer à l’objectif commun d’un Ouganda exempt de paludisme.
