Members of the Young Scientists Network recently held their quarterly webinar. The topic of the day was “Bringing your research to life: essentials for presenting a scientific paper”. It featured Dr. Martin Lukindu of Target Malaria Uganda, a medical entomologist and research associate from the Uganda Virus Research Institute, as the keynote speaker.

Dr. Lukindu presented several techniques for communicating his subject matter in a rigorous and engaging manner. He  emphasized the importance of science communication and the skills needed to discuss a field of study with lay audiences such as journalists, funders, and community members. “Presenting research is about more than sharing results. It requires understanding your audience, communicating complex ideas clearly, and creating a memorable scientific story,” said Dr Lukindu.

The session also addressed common challenges faced by young scientists, including presentation nerves, answering difficult questions, avoiding overloaded slides, and staying within time limits. Dr Lukindu shared lessons he learned from his own experiences when he debuted as a young researcher.

This webinar reflects the Young Scientists Network’s commitment to equipping emerging researchers with the skills needed to thrive in scientific careers. By providing access to experienced scientists and practical professional development opportunities, the Network continues to support and inspire the next generation of research leaders working to address global health challenges.

A recording of the event will be posted as soon as it becomes available.
