Young Scientists Network Hosts “Ask Me Anything” webinar for World Mosquito Day

As part of World Mosquito Day 2026, Target Malaria’s Young Scientists Network hosted a special edition webinar: “Ask Me Anything” – an interactive session designed to connect young researchers working at the forefront of malaria research with those looking to pursue a career in science.

The event, held on Thursday 20 August 2026, featured Ashley Birungi, a Laboratory Technologist at the Uganda Virus Research Institute (UVRI). Ashley shared insights from her work analysing mosquito samples, generating lab data, and supporting studies that deepen our understanding of mosquito populations and malaria transmission.

Empowering Young Scientists Through Dialogue 

The “Ask Me Anything” format encouraged open discussion, allowing participants to explore both scientific and career-related questions, as well as engage in a poll related to the discussion. Ashley spoke about her journey from studying biochemistry and zoology as an undergraduate student to doing internships at UVRI, where she contributes to Target Malaria’s efforts to develop innovative vector control tools. 

Her reflections highlighted the importance of mentorship, collaboration, and curiosity in scientific growth — values that resonate strongly within the Young Scientists Network.
