On May 4th, 2025, Target Malaria Uganda participated in the annual Walk Against Malaria, organized by the Uganda Parliamentary Forum on Malaria. Held under the theme “No one should die of malaria”, the event at Parliament of Uganda aimed to raise national awareness and reinforce Uganda’s long-standing commitment to eliminating the disease.

Led by the Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Thomas Tayebwa, the walk drew over 1,000 participants, including diplomatic envoys, representatives from the World Health Organization, private sector leaders, civil society organizations, and officials from the Ministry of Health. The large turnout reflected the urgency and shared resolve to combat malaria in Uganda. In his remarks, the Deputy Speaker reaffirmed the government’s dedication to boosting malaria control funding and lauded public support for innovations in malaria elimination.

Target Malaria engaged the Deputy Speaker and other key stakeholders, fostering visibility and opening avenues for future collaboration. These interactions allowed the team to initiate meaningful conversations around the potential of gene drive technology in malaria control.
