African leaders adopt the Accra Declaration

African Heads of State and Government have endorsed the Accra Declaration on implementing the AU Roadmap to 2030 and Beyond, committing to domestic health financing, local manufacturing and annual accountability reporting. The African Leaders Malaria Alliance (ALMA) welcomed the declaration, describing it as a chance for African countries to get back on track at a time when progress against malaria is stalling.

The adoption of the Accra Declaration represents a significant milestone in the African Union’s health agenda, though its ultimate success will be measured by the extent to which its commitments—particularly around domestic financing and accountability—are implemented in practice.
