“Mosquito Minutes”, an animated series for World Mosquito Day 2025

This World Mosquito Day our campaign features a new animated video series called Mosquito Minutes, each video, answering a commonly asked question or sharing an intriguing fact about mosquitoes.
Every year on the 20th of August, World Mosquito Day commemorates Sir Ronald Ross’ groundbreaking discovery linking the female Anopheles mosquito to the transmission of malaria. In line with this tradition, “Mosquito Minutes” aims to educate our audience on the key facts of mosquitoes including their behaviour, life cycle and history.
With the recent rise in mosquito borne diseases globally, raising awareness through accessible and engaging means is more important than ever. “Mosquito Minutes” serves as a vital reminder for the ongoing need for research and investment into innovative technologies to hinder the spread of mosquito borne diseases.
During my internship I was tasked with the design and animation of “Mosquito Minutes”, a series of short animations that give intriguing and insightful facts about mosquitoes, all the way from their life cycle down to the differences between male and female Anopheles mosquitoes!
Being in charge of the animation, which would be the highlight of this year’s World Mosquito Day campaign, was a responsibility that I took seriously. I was fully dedicated to create a product that was singular while being aligned with the overall aesthetics and vision for this year’s campaign.
I was able to achieve this thanks to the creative freedom that was given to me, allowing me to approach and design the animations in my own visual style. The process and making of the animations consist of both 2D frame by frame animation and motion graphics. When approaching the overall look of the animations, I opted for bold outlines and vibrant colors for the visual style, because I wanted them to be visually pleasing, eye-catching and to seamlessly blend with the scientific being presented, making them entertaining and informative.
