New Communications Assistant

By Chloe Cole

Communications Assistant – media relations, Imperial College London, Target Malaria UK

I am beyond thrilled to be joining the Target Malaria Global Communications team this summer as a Communications Assistant focused on media relations!

I have just completed my final year at the University of Bristol, studying Sociology. Under this discipline I developed both theoretical and practical insights into understanding global inequalities. My academic journey has deepened my understanding of how these intersecting factors shape lived experiences around the world, and I look forward to further developing this understanding in a practical non-academic environment.

My interest in the intersection of health and Sociology was first sparked by the COVID-19 pandemic and further developed through my studies and a communications internship that I had last summer at Prostate Cancer UK. This experience affirmed my interest in pursuing a career in the communications field.

As a British-born Nigerian, with family that are directly affected by malaria, joining the Target Malaria team feels especially meaningful to me. The organisation’s international scope and strong commitment to diversity strongly resonates with me. I believe that collaboration across cultures and people from different backgrounds drives innovation in all industries. I was able to observe the celebration and the collaboration of different cultures in my final year working under the University of Bristol’s Global Lounge, and I am incredibly excited to continue to work in a space that is a proponent for this collaboration in the first step of my communications career.

In my spare time, you would most often find me in the cinema or getting last minute theatre tickets and sending very in-depth voice notes to friends, describing every detail of what I had watched and my opinion on these stories. Along with watching content in the cinema or theatre, I also enjoy writing short films and plays and I created three short films throughout my time as a member of the University of Bristol’s InFilm society

I look forward to applying my sociological and creative skills to the team, and to learn from and gain insight from such a passionate and accomplished team.
