My upcoming TED talk

Posted 11th April 2024 by Prof. Abdoulaye Diabaté

I am elated to announce that I will be speaking at the annual TED Conference in Vancouver this April! I am honoured to share important information about malaria, about African malaria research and development of gene drive technologies as a form of vector control. TED will be an incredible opportunity to bring these topics to a new audience.

This year marks the 40th anniversary of TED, and the theme of the conference is ‘The Brave and the Brilliant’, highlighting revolutionary developments in culture and uses of technology. One such practice is the innovative, potentially game-changing genetic research that I oversee as the Principal Investigator of Target Malaria Burkina Faso and Head of Medical Entomology and Parasitology at the Research Institute in Health Sciences (IRSS).

Joining a bold lineup of over 70 speakers from different sectors, I will use TED’s global platform to provide insight into gene drive technology to 1800+ attendees and many more watching from home. My talk will be about my own experiences with malaria, the continued prevalence of the disease and the potential of gene drive research to create a radical shift in the landscape of malaria elimination tactics across Africa.

We are now closer than ever to achieving our goal of #ZeroMalaria elimination, and I look forward to sharing the research that made me confident enough to say so. You can expect to hear a lot more from me this coming April.
