Target Malaria Uganda recently conducted a community focused quiz competition aimed at raising awareness about malaria prevention and enhancing understanding of the project’s research work.

This event took place in two of the project island sites: Lwazi Jaana in Kalangala District and Kansambwe, Nsadzi Island in Mukono District.

Held over two consecutive days in each location, the quiz was structured in a knockout format and featured questions related to malaria transmission, mosquito biology, and Target Malaria’s research approach. The activity was designed not only to assess knowledge but also to encourage interactive learning and dialogue between the community and the project team.

The sessions also included participation through community radio broadcasts (also known as bizindalo), which enabled wider listenership and support for the contestants as listeners tuned in to follow the competition and, in the process, deepened their understanding of both malaria and the work being conducted by Target Malaria Uganda.

At the end of each event, eight finalists were selected to advance to the grand finals which will be held in December.

This quiz reaffirmed Target Malaria Uganda’s ongoing commitment to community engagement as an essential component of its work. By integrating education with interactive participation, this initiative highlighted the power of informed communities in advancing innovative malaria control and prevention tools to end malaria.
