Entomology Explained

Medical entomology is the branch of science that studies insects and other arthropods that affect human and animal health, particularly those that transmit diseases or cause other health-related issues. At Target Malaria, entomologists study mosquitoes to better understand its physiology, genome and behavior with the aim of developing genetic technologies which could one deay help eliminate malaria.
Understanding the behaviours of mosquitoes is essential to malaria research. These videos feature entomologists from Target Malaria and offer an inside look into our entomological work, whilst exploring facts about mosquitoes.
For more information on entomology, read this blog authored by Charles Batume, Entomologist at the Uganda Virus Research Institute.
“My favourite part about practicing entomology is being able to learn and share knowledge on the biology of disease vectors. Such information is important especially in times of outbreaks of disease.”
