Advancing mosquito research in Uganda: Workshop at UVRI
Posted 28
From January 13th to 18th, 2025, Target Malaria Uganda organized a workshop at the Uganda Virus Research Institute (UVRI) to strengthen skills focused on advanced techniques for studying Anopheles gambiae, a key malaria-transmitting mosquito.
Participants learned cutting-edge methods and techniques, including Real-time PCR and fluorescence microscopy to process and screen genetically modified mosquito strains, as well as to confirm genetic modifications and how to identify mosquito species such as A. arabiensis, A. coluzzii, and A. gambiae.
The workshop aimed to equip researchers with the tools to support innovative approaches in malaria control.
The workshop was facilitated by various partners from Imperial College London and the CDC, plus the Diptera AI team. Members from Target Malaria Burkina Faso were also present.
We thank everyone involved for their efforts.
