Leaders from three villages visit Target Malaria Uganda

Posted 12th November 2024 by Patience Arinaitwe

On November 8, 2024, village leaders from Target Malaria island field sites of Lwazi Jaana, Kansambwe, and Lwazi Bubeke islands on Lake Victoria visited the Target Malaria Uganda team at the Uganda Virus Research Institute (UVRI). This visit was designed to deepen relationships between the project and local communities to ensure that village leaders are fully informed about the project’s objectives, progress, and potential contributions to the fight against malaria.

The half-day event featured an open discussion on the project phases and the ongoing activities in their respective villages, followed by a tour of the insectary facility and the UVRI campus. This visit provided an invaluable opportunity for the leaders to see firsthand the research being conducted and to better understand the procedures involved.

Most of the village leaders were particularly interested in observing how mosquitoes are handled and reared in the insectary, to get updates on the progress of the research, and to understand the potential impact of the project on their communities. In addition to gaining deeper insights into Target Malaria’s work, the visit also helped to enhance more understanding and support for the project.
