Comme ces moustiques sont les principaux vecteurs du paludisme en Afrique, Target Malaria concentre sa recherche sur des outils qui permettent de r\u00e9duire le nombre de ces esp\u00e8ces afin de ralentir la transmission du paludisme. Pour que ces \u00e9tudes puissent avancer sur le terrain, il est crucial de bien comprendre quel r\u00f4le ces esp\u00e8ces jouent dans l\u2019\u00e9cosyst\u00e8me, pour que la r\u00e9duction anticip\u00e9e de leurs populations n\u2019ait pas de cons\u00e9quences inacceptables pour les communaut\u00e9s environnantes de la faune et de la flore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:35px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed aligncenter is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Using DNA barcodes in the fight against Malaria\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/oEwrtVADfxM?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:26px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Dans cet objectif, les chercheurs de l\u2019Universit\u00e9 du Ghana ont recueilli des donn\u00e9es sur le terrain qui conduiront un jour \u00e0 la cr\u00e9ation d\u2019un \u00ab\u00a0r\u00e9seau \u00e9cologique\u00a0\u00bb, \u00e0 savoir une carte des interactions entre les diff\u00e9rents organismes de l\u2019\u00e9cosyst\u00e8me et <em>An. gambiae<\/em>. Des \u00e9chantillons ont \u00e9t\u00e9 captur\u00e9s pendant un an dans deux villages de la r\u00e9gion Volta du Ghana. Les \u00e9quipes Target Malaria ont travaill\u00e9 en \u00e9troite collaboration avec les habitants des villages pour mettre au point diff\u00e9rents moyens de les capturer. Au pr\u00e9alable, toutes les m\u00e9thodes et le nombre d\u2019\u00e9chantillons vis\u00e9 ont \u00e9t\u00e9 approuv\u00e9s par les comit\u00e9s d\u2019\u00e9thique de l\u2019Universit\u00e9 du Ghana et de l\u2019Universit\u00e9 d\u2019Oxford pour s\u2019assurer de l\u2019absence d\u2019impacts durables sur les v\u00e9g\u00e9taux et les animaux des communaut\u00e9s d\u2019\u00e9tude.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Une fois les \u00e9chantillons captur\u00e9s et r\u00e9pertori\u00e9s, les chercheurs utilisent la biblioth\u00e8que de codes-barres d\u2019ADN pour identifier les esp\u00e8ces qui partagent leurs habitats avec <em>An. gambiae<\/em>, ou les pr\u00e9dateurs du moustique, comme les oiseaux, les chauves-souris et d\u2019autres insectes. De plus, les esp\u00e8ces h\u00f4tes sur lesquelles les moustiques ont pris leur repas peuvent \u00e9galement \u00eatre identifi\u00e9es en analysant le contenu des visc\u00e8res de moustiques. Ces donn\u00e9es nous aident \u00e0 cartographier le r\u00e9seau \u00e9cologique local, \u00e0 d\u00e9tailler toutes les esp\u00e8ces figurant dans l\u2019\u00e9cosyst\u00e8me et \u00e0 voir de quelle mani\u00e8re elles sont reli\u00e9es. Les chercheurs peuvent ainsi faire la d\u00e9monstration quantitative des liens entre <em>An. gambiae<\/em> et les autres esp\u00e8ces de l\u2019\u00e9cosyst\u00e8me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Le projet de recherche \u00e9cologique au Ghana est une collaboration internationale entre l\u2019Universit\u00e9 d\u2019Oxford, le Centre for Biodiversity Genomics (CBG) \u00e0 l\u2019Universit\u00e9 de Guelph et Target Malaria. Avec le soutien du Prof. Paul D. N. Hebert, Directeur du CBG, et du Dr. Michelle L. D\u2019Souza, des \u00e9chantillons de notre centre de recherche au Ghana ont commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 arriver sur les grandes plateformes de s\u00e9quen\u00e7age du centre canadien, o\u00f9 3000 insectes ont \u00e9t\u00e9 trait\u00e9s \u00e0 ce jour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Toutes les donn\u00e9es de ce projet seront largement publi\u00e9es. Si certains aspects de l\u2019\u00e9cologie d\u2019<em>An. gambiae<\/em> sont bien \u00e9tudi\u00e9s, le projet de recherche au Ghana nous fournira un tableau plus d\u00e9taill\u00e9 des interactions \u00e9cologiques de cette esp\u00e8ce. Selon le Dr. Talya D. Hackett, de l\u2019Universit\u00e9 d\u2019Oxford, la biblioth\u00e8que de codes-barres d\u2019ADN que Target Malaria est en train de constituer, et le r\u00e9seau \u00e9cologique au sens large, sont \u00ab\u00a0probablement parmi les plus grands &#8211; sinon les plus grands &#8211; qui aient \u00e9t\u00e9 constitu\u00e9s \u00e0 ce jour dans le monde\u00a0\u00bb. Bien que ces donn\u00e9es soient recueillies par les \u00e9quipes du projet afin d\u2019\u00e9lucider une question sp\u00e9cifique, cela cr\u00e9e en m\u00eame temps une mine de renseignements pour toute la communaut\u00e9 scientifique et pour d\u2019autres personnes au Ghana et en Afrique de l\u2019Ouest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Le travail de Target Malaria pour r\u00e9v\u00e9ler les interactions entre esp\u00e8ces est un th\u00e8me cl\u00e9 du programme de recherche mondial BIOSCAN, dont le projet fait partie, et qui vise \u00e0 r\u00e9volutionner notre connaissance de la biodiversit\u00e9 et ce que l\u2019on sait des moyens de la g\u00e9rer. Sous la direction de l\u2019<a href=\"https:\/\/ibol.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">International Barcode of Life Consortium<\/a>, BIOSCAN a d\u00e9fini trois th\u00e8mes de recherche : D\u00e9couverte d\u2019esp\u00e8ces, Interactions entre esp\u00e8ces et Dynamique des esp\u00e8ces.
