Le R\u00e9seau des jeunes scientifiques a r\u00e9cemment organis\u00e9 un webinaire consacr\u00e9 aux parcours professionnels dans la recherche sur le paludisme, avec comme intervenant principal le Dr Jonathan Kayondo<\/a>, chercheur principal chez Target Malaria Ouganda \u00e0 l’Uganda Virus Research Institute. L’\u00e9v\u00e9nement a r\u00e9uni plus de 100 participants du monde entier, dont beaucoup \u00e9taient des scientifiques en d\u00e9but de carri\u00e8re d\u00e9sireux d’apprendre aupr\u00e8s de figures de proue du domaine.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Pour cette session, le r\u00e9seau s’est associ\u00e9 \u00e0 Biosci Toolkit<\/a>, une organisation bas\u00e9e au Royaume-Uni fond\u00e9e par le Dr Chinedu Agwu. Biosci Toolkit a pour mission de donner aux \u00e9tudiants issus de milieux sous-repr\u00e9sent\u00e9s les moyens de prendre des d\u00e9cisions \u00e9clair\u00e9es concernant les dipl\u00f4mes en biosciences et les opportunit\u00e9s de carri\u00e8re. Cette collaboration a permis \u00e0 Target Malaria d’impliquer des jeunes et des \u00e9tudiants de la diaspora africaine et d’ailleurs, qui pourraient \u00eatre inspir\u00e9s \u00e0 poursuivre des carri\u00e8res scientifiques enrichissantes et, peut-\u00eatre un jour, \u00e0 contribuer directement \u00e0 la recherche et \u00e0 l’innovation dans le domaine du paludisme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Perspectives d\u2019un chercheur de premier plan dans le domaine du paludisme<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Cette conversation d\u2019une heure a \u00e9t\u00e9 anim\u00e9e par Abdulkabir Adenopo, doctorant \u00e0 l\u2019universit\u00e9 de York. Le Dr Kayondo a partag\u00e9 ses r\u00e9flexions sur ses premi\u00e8res exp\u00e9riences professionnelles dans le secteur de la sant\u00e9 et sur les moments d\u00e9cisifs qui ont suscit\u00e9 son int\u00e9r\u00eat pour l\u2019entomologie m\u00e9dicale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Il a d\u00e9crit comment son parcours professionnel l\u2019a conduit \u00e0 travailler sur des technologies g\u00e9n\u00e9tiques, telles que le gene drive<\/a>, une approche \u00e9mergente et prometteuse de la lutte antivectorielle qui pourrait un jour compl\u00e9ter les strat\u00e9gies existantes de pr\u00e9vention du paludisme. Son parcours a illustr\u00e9 la valeur de la curiosit\u00e9, de la pers\u00e9v\u00e9rance et de la volont\u00e9 d\u2019explorer de nouvelles fronti\u00e8res scientifiques.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Il a \u00e9galement soulign\u00e9 \u00e0 quel point le mentorat, la formation interdisciplinaire et le leadership local en mati\u00e8re de recherche sont essentiels pour b\u00e2tir une carri\u00e8re solide dans la recherche sur le paludisme et innover contre cette maladie, qui p\u00e8se lourdement sur les \u00e9conomies et les soci\u00e9t\u00e9s africaines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Une vision pour un avenir sans paludisme<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Speaking to a highly engaged audience, Dr Kayondo shared his hopes for the future of malaria control and elimination. He expressed optimism that with increased investment, stronger scientific collaboration, and the dedication of researchers worldwide, malaria could one day be eliminated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His message resonated strongly with participants, many of whom are at the beginning of their scientific journeys and looking for ways to contribute to global health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The webinar reflects the Young Scientists Network\u2019s commitment to supporting the next generation of African scientists<\/a> through mentorship, training, and exposure to leading experts. By partnering with organisations like Biosci Toolkit, the Network continues to expand opportunities for young researchers and strengthen the pipeline of talent needed to tackle malaria and other vector\u2011borne diseases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
